Eating After a Fast

Eating after the fast (Break-fast)

Resuming meals after a fast is just as important as the fast itself. Overeating and eating wrong foods can negate a lot of the benefits of the fast and result in some unpleasant symptoms.

Post-fast meals are prepared based on several factors.

These include the length of the fast, the specific health issues addressed during the fast, and the season of the year. Macrobiotic principles are followed with foods appropriate for the season and temperatures.

During the fast the stomach shrinks so the first couple meals are smaller. Overeating after a fast can result in digestive symptoms.

Meals for the first couple days are kept simple and are plant based. This allows for ease of digestion. Some raw foods are always included to assure repopulation of healthy gut bacteria and provide adequate fiber for gut transit time.

And the post -fast meals always taste good. Simple foods consumed after a fast of over a few days can seem amazingly delicious, with no spices or seasonings. This is due to the taste buds becoming more sensitized and effcient after the fast. One patient who broke a 10-day fast on fresh, ripe pineapple stated, “It was like heaven exploding in mouth”.

The practice has developed over many decades in fasting clinics throughout the world to break a fast on fruits, due to ease of digestion and stimulation of intestinal motility.

These may be used at Yellowstone Peaks, or another plan sourced food may be used, depending on the various factors weighing in on the patients’ health at the end of the fast.

Part of the stay at Yellowstone Peaks are recommendations for healthy eating for the individual patient, based on body type, astrology, blood type, genetic lineage and ongoing health challenges. By the end of the stay the patient will have a good concept of what is the right diet for him or her, to allow for maximizing the benefits of the fast and continued good health for the future.
